The Benefits To Our Students
Learning in Multiple Modalities: The schedule is designed to ensure that students spend significant time each day learning individually, in small groups, in whole classes and in large-group activities. Learning in multiple modalities maximizes:
Structured Interdisciplinary Focus: Every opportunity is taken to increase the quality of students’ learning experiences so that they develop a deep, broad foundation of knowledge and skills, become globally aware citizens and responsible community leaders, and develop cognitively, morally and physically. The daily schedule integrates development of strong mathematics, reading and writing skills into structured exploration of global cultures, the humanities and the natural world. Music, art and technology are not separated into stand-alone courses because they are integrated across the school day.
Healthy Social & Physical Development Time: Each day, students participate in a school-wide assembly, participate in structured play through a morning and afternoon recess, and take a break from classroom studies to spend 80 minutes eating lunch and participating in physical fitness. These periods meet students’ social, emotional and behavioral development needs. Additionally, our teachers do home visits twice a year with each student. It is important to our team to make a strong connection between teacher, parent, and student.
Unique Annual Calendar: An extended year calendar minimizes the student learning regression that frequently occurs during a long summer break. The School is out of session for approximately 45 days during the Summer, which preserves a family break without forcing parents to pay for day camps or other costly summer alternatives.
